AMEREN IP OVERVIEW

Electric service in Ottawa and the surrounding LaSalle County vicinity is provided by AmerenIP. Based in Decatur, IL, AmerenIP serves more than 625,000 electric customers and 425,000 natural gas customers in a 15,000 square-mile territory across northern, central and southern Illinois. AmerenIP is a delivery service company and is regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission. AmerenIP is a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE). Ameren utilities serve approximately 2.4 million electric customers and 1 million natural gas customers across 64,000 square miles in Illinois and Missouri.

ELECTRIC SERVICE OPTIONS

In 1997, Illinois lawmaker passed landmark legislation that changed the way electricity is bought and sold in Illinois. AmerenIP delivers electricity, and customers are able to choose from whom they buy their power.

Third-party suppliers

Existing and new customers have the options to negotiate their energy purchases with third-party suppliers or Alternate Retail Electric Suppliers (ARES). ARES are permitted to provide energy to electric customers in Illinois, but they must satisfy certification requirements through the Illinois commerce commission.

Utility provided energy
Illinois utilities are required to continue to provide delivery and generation service to residential, commercial and industrial customers who do not wish to shop for power. Customers who wish to receive their electric supply from AmerenIP can choose either Basic Generation Service (BGS) or Real-Time Pricing (RTP).
